The excellent Hotel Die Forelle on the shores of Lake Millstätter See in Carinthia is proud of its 140-year history. The hotel was originally founded as “Forellenheim” (“Forelle” means “trout”) by the Bacher family, professional fishermen who were known beyond the borders of Carinthia and even supplied the imperial court in Vienna with their fish. Today, the four-star hotel is run by the third generation of the Aniwanter family. Throughout its long history, the Forelle has never stood still. Its vision has always been to become the best hotel in town, carrying forth the family tradition with passion and care, and adapting it to the requirements and expectations of today’s guests.
A courageous, forward-looking approach
To remain successful and steadily grow a business requires inventiveness, passion and commitment. Managing Director Stefanie Aniwanter, who feels privileged to have taken over the reins from her parents, is living proof of this. Her goal is to make the hotel into a year-round operation, with a focus on sustainable processes and structures. The hotel is located directly on the shores of Lake Millstätter See, measures 3,000 square metres and has 120 beds as well as a 70 square-metre wellness area. A unique feature is the hotel’s own fishing area that measures 120 hectares. The hotel’s family atmosphere is its key asset, both for staff and guests. Quite a few celebrities have stayed here over the years, for instance British rock band Deep Purple.
